NAKORNPAYAP INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Education Through Diversity
The Chinese course is divided into 4 levels. Placement is based on past course work and current knowledge. The focus of the Chinese course is to build an understanding of complicated words, phrases, sentences, songs, stories, dialogues in context, as well as an appreciation of the differences between Chinese and English.

Students also learn to translate language and content ideas from other subjects into Chinese. The course encompasses all key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing with an overall emphasis on the use of Chinese for pragmatic communication.

Furthermore, to learn Chinese profoundly, it is not only the study of how to read and write Chinese, but students are also encouraged to understand Chinese culture, traditions, and festivals. This course provides the opportunity to learn Chinese culture, traditions, and festivals by participating in various field trips, Chinese chess, and Chinese New Year celebrations. Grade is dependent on supporting documentation, quizzes, and class participation.
French
Four levels of French are offered. Placement into a level is based on previous French courses taken and/or ability level as assessed by the teacher.
French 1
French 1 offers a basic understanding of French language and culture. Vocabulary is introduced along with correct pronunciation and spelling which relates to communication within the family, school, school work, and travel. Along with this, students will be given a basic understanding of French culture including social protocols, life style, foods, and an introduction to the country's major cities.
French 2
French 2 focuses more on sharpening the ability to communicate with attention being given to correcting difficulties in grammar and pronunciation. The field of communication is also widened to include topics that are not only self related.
French 3
French 3 aims at giving the students the skill to express more personal matters. Students will do more personal research, and relate it to personal experience. Topic based activities which allow discussions around themes the students have learned in other classes will be increased. At this point, English will be allowed in class only on a very limited basis.
French 4
French 4 will give students a solid knowledge of French society and culture. Skills allowing students to communicate only in French will be strengthened. Use of English will not be allowed in class at this level.
All four levels of French use the BBC French Experiences program. This is supplemented with day to day materials such as magazine articles, songs, movies/documentaries, maps tickets, cards, etc.
