Drama

Drama is a year long elective course for students who are beginners or who have only a little knowledge of the subject.
The first semester will provide an introduction and general overview of drama as live performance (in comparison to recorded performance ie. film). Students will learn about all aspects of a live performance covering writing, direction, acting, backstage management with some focus on technical aids.

Students will learn about each different role involved in a production from administration through to performance.
Other topics will be ideas for writing dialogue, building character and improvisation dialogue specific language as well as speech patterns and regional dialects.
The second semester will put into practice some of the theories learnt and explored working towards a final group live performance to an invited audience at the end of the year.

We hope to provide the opportunity to go on one or more field trips to see local performances which the students will discuss and review.
Grading is based on final presentations and supporting documentation, as well as on going class participation.
The Drama philosophy is that the practice and analysis of contemporary theatre can be a means of building confidence, creativity and happiness in today's culture and in a changing world.
