High School Curriculum Structure (Grades 9 - 12)

Required Courses
All students must carry a minimum credit load of 5 credits per semester unless special permission is granted by the Principal. The grade level listed beside some courses is the average grade level when the course is taken; however, this can very depending on need and ability. The total number of required course credits is 26 semester credits in the following curricular areas.

COMPUTER SCIENCE
For students entering the school with advanced computer skills, Computer Science 3 can be substituted by Computer Science 4 or 5 as the graduation requirement.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Additional Physical Education classes can be taken as Electives.
Electives
To meet the graduation requirement of 45 credits, students must earn 19 or more elective credits in addition to their required courses. Not all elective courses are offered on a yearly basis. Elective credits can be made up of addition courses in the core suject areas. Special Independent Study or Community Service Courses under the supervision of an advising teacher may be undertaken as an elective credit with permission of the Principal. These courses can be designed based on the needs and interests of the student.

Transfer credits from another school must meet the requirements of NIS and will be approved or disapproved by the Principal.
Upon completion of the credit requirements for graduation the school will issue a High School Diploma.
