Music

Elementary
The Music scheme in place is based on The Kodaly and Orff methods, both popular in Europe, Australia and the USA. From early childhood, children are taught a range of game songs and songs appropriate to their age. Beat, rhythm and pitch are taught through singing and playing a range of tuned and untuned percussion instruments and recorder (from Grade 3). Children also compose and perform their own songs. Listening to different genres including music from various times and a range of cultures introduces flexibility in appreciating different forms. Dance and movement are also included. The scheme is sequential and cyclic, building on previous knowledge and experience.

High School
High school Music is currently offered as an introduction to Music available to Grade 7-8. Students study musicals from different eras, contemporary music styles and music. Theory. They get credit for self chosen performance tasks, and continue to learn recorder. The music department also supports classroom teachers in providing resources, concerts, and support for individual and group efforts. Any students who play orchestral string instruments are encouraged to join the string ensemble which will practice in club time.
With the addition of an extra new music room and teacher in semester 2, 2008, it is planned to expand the school music program to cater for our expanding needs, especially in the High School area and allow more options within the program i.e. strings, wind and choir.
