Parent, Teacher, Student, Assembly (PTSA) Meeting

October 11, 2017

Dear NIS Families:

Parent, Teacher, Student, Assembly
(
PTSA
)
Meeting

I would like to invite you to our next PTSA Meeting calendared for Tuesday,
October 31 at 2:30 pm. We will meet in the Multi-Purpose Room – located on
the 2nd floor of the C Building – following the annual Halloween
Parade. Once again, we have scheduled this meeting to accommodate your busy
schedules and the pick-up of your children. Approximately 40 parents
attended our first meeting in September.

As always, the meeting will be arranged to accommodate the diversity of our
school community. Translation group seating will be according to your
language – Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, and English. There will a
translator at each table to assist as needed.

Election of New Executive Board

This is a very important meeting as a new Executive Board will be elected
for the 2017-2018 school year. I am encouraging all YOU to consider the
following leadership positions: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Second
Secretary, Treasurer, and Second Secretary. The nomination process is very
simple; someone nominates you or you nominate yourself. So far, Melody Chu
has been nominated for Chair and Nicholas Schoenlaub for Vice Chair. Once
again, I have attached the job descriptions for each position. Please let
me know if you are interested.

PTSA Mission

The PTSA is an integral leadership group at NIS and their mission is to
support NIS and its endeavors to “do what is best for kids.” The specific
objectives are (1) to maintain good and effective relationships between
parents, teachers, staff, and students; (2) engage in activities which
support the school and the education of the students; and (3) provide
services, raise funds, and such functions as are necessary in the execution
of the stated objectives of the school.

Room Parents

I also want to remind you about volunteering as a Room Parent this year.
These parents will play a key communication role between the classroom and
the PTSA, while assisting in the classroom on an as needed basis. The
following list provides some ways that you can become involved as a Room
Parent.

· Help with the communication between other parents and the teacher, the
PTSA, and occasionally school administration

· Organize class parties, usually around a specific topic or theme .

· Collect money from parents and organize teacher gifts at holidays and
during teacher appreciation week

· Recruit and coordinate volunteers for classroom support, school events,
and field trips

· Send out reminders about events, activities, field trips, etc .

· Attend parent group meetings.

· Keep an uptodate
list of contact information for all parents

Please email me sdroderick@nis.ac.th if you are
interested or stop by my office for more detailed information.

A BIG Thank You
!

Recently, the PTSA provided financial support for the LEGO Club which is
sponsored by Grade 3 Teacher Ms. Rachel. The generous donation of 6000 Baht
was used to buy a variety of Legos parts, pieces and kits. This club meets
every Thursday after school and allows an opportunity to use their
imaginations and creative talents. Feel free to come by and observe young
minds at work.

The PTSA also donated – through individual donations – 6000 Baht in
celebration of World Teacher Appreciation Day On October 5, 2017. A variety
of special refreshments and beverages were provided to the teachers in
recognition of their many contributions to NIS and our students.

Chats with the Principal

As I mentioned in my first letter and at the PTSA gathering, I will be
offering a series of monthly Chat with the Principal meetings beginning on
Monday, November 13 at 3:00 pm in the A Building Library – Room 205. These
meetings will be informal and provide parents with the opportunity to
engage with me on any number of topics, concerns, or issues. To accommodate
our diverse population, I will meet with you by your language preference.
The schedule below is for the week of November 13 17.

  • Monday November 13 Korean 3:00 pm
  • Tuesday November 14 Chinese 3:00 pm
  • Wednesday November 15 Thai 3:00 pm

Get Involved

Parent involvement is vital to NIS. We need your help as school and project
volunteers, support with fund raising efforts, and as our “sounding board”
for school improvement. Every parent and every member of our school
community to is needed to ensure accomplishment of our vision, mission, and
Expected School-wide Learning Results (ESLRs) of Nakornpayap International
School.

Remember, when you are involved we do our best
!

Sincerely,

Mr. Steve
